The Lavender

The blooming period is from June to the end of July, depending of the orientation of the fields and the
elevation. There are maps to help to find the best one during your stay.
Also the sunflowers fields are blooming at the same time and it is truly magical to see the together, the
vibrant purple of the lavender next to the yellows of the sun flowers!!! It will remind you of the painter
who stayed in Arles a long time: Van Gogh

The arts

In Aix it is the high season of the opera, or festival d’art lyrique which is well renowned and keep
growing over the years. For opera lovers it is important to book your seats early!!
Orange also has his own festival, of theater this time!! In July hundreds of companies come to Orange to
perform and it is purely incredible. You can also visit the cite des papes in Orange at the same time.
Arles hold the rencontres photographiques and the exhibits are impressive!! The photos shown are of
professional quality. There is also a photographic school in Arles.

The food

In summer the stalls at the markets are full of fresh produce, grown locally, like red strawberries, the
first one being the gariguette. The wine are plenty too and in Provence the rose served fresh is truly
delicious after a day of visiting.

Festivals

Saint Remy de Provence hold the celebration of the transhumance, this is when the sheep are bring out
in the Alps for the summer season. That means that hundreds of sheep with their shepherds are
walking through the city along with the sheep dogs well trained!!!
In mid-June there is the fete de la Saint Jean where it is custom for young people to jump over a bonfire
to tighten their love.
There are also plenty of regattas by the sea and water jousting and you can eat plenty of fresh fish on
the grill.

Beaches

Plenty to choose from and you can also visit the calanques by boat, some offer the sunset cruse with a
glass of wine.
